Nature Photography Meetup

Saturday 19 July
Capitol Park - 10am - 2 Hours

Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way. We will be looking at composition, focal length, and exposure.

The venue offers a rich tapestry of subjects for us to choose. You will learn how to compose a shot. That means you will select the parameters of the subject you are photographing before you shoot. Next, we will work with focal length to make sure you can get the proper focus and the most detailed image possible. Third, we will work with exposure. The tricky part about the venue is that we are indoors (mostly) and that means there is less light so we must work to raise the amount of light we let into the aperture. We can adjust with our f-stop choices. Then, we will tweak that with other small changes. I suspect will be photographing orchids, ferns, palm fronds, succulents, and other plant life that is blooming. If you have a macro lens, please bring it. If you don’t have one, we can work with what you have (as long as it’s not 400 mm or larger).

Note: Entry fees are not included in the ticket price. Please pay $12 (adults) or $11 (seniors) at the venue on the day.

Title or Location: Time heals all?.
This painting was done with various brands of watercolor on Arches cold press. The reason behind it is healing so if you notice, the heart and roses in the back look decomposed while the rose in front of the top of the heart are coming back to life.

This young woman was waiting for a ceremony to begin that I was attending. She lives in West Africa and was wearing a string of random beads that my African friends prefer. Her expression was open but patient and knowing. I thought some of her grandmother's wisdom must have come to her, just like the necklace.

Title or Location: Texas Oak Vignette
I took a picture of an old oak tree in central Texas which I used for reference. I decided to represent it in an iconic vignette type rather than a straight up landscape painting.

I am recovering from being paralyzed from the neck down with Guillain Barre Syndrome. I have always had a gift of art. I was so afraid that being paralyzed for over a year that I would lose my gift? my prayers were answered and my ?gift? is better now than before. I do not draw anything,, I see it in my head and then I paint. I do not have fine motor skills in my hands and I tell people I can not load and unload the dishwasher but I can hold a paintbrush!!!
